Assemblage
Sandy’s artwork showcases her love for collecting unique and unusual items from random drawers to the bottom of a river. Each box showcases her fascination with the strange and beautiful treasures she discovers on her travels. Her Moroccan assemblage box is a testament to this, featuring a camel’s tooth, a natural rock formation, a tile found on the beach, and an encaustic painting of a man with a donkey inspired by a photograph, all housed within an old painter's box. The hunt is part of the process.
The artifacts and treasures she collects are not pristine and perfect items meant for museums but are intended to preserve and give new life to things that may otherwise be overlooked or discarded. She hand-makes paper and applies techniques such as indigo dyeing and rusting to add depth and character to the pieces inside the box. Sandy can connect and share her visions, explorations, and curiosities with the viewer through assemblage.
